Professor Steve explains the difference between 230 and 460 connections on an electric motor. 230/460 connection- Determining a WYE or Delta Connection A standard 3-Phase motor and how to connect it, whether it is low voltage or high voltage, 230 or 460, first thing is look over motor- a lot of time manufacturers tell you on the name plate whether you have a WYE or Delta connection, which is going to make a difference on the low voltage connection. Take a wire #2, and check to see what has continuity with the #2 wire by checking the other leads. There will be 1 lead that has continuity. We know this is a WYE because there is continuity between 7, 8, 9 leads. If we end up with 3 combinations of 3, we know the motor is a Delta configuration that will change on our high and low voltage connection. Our high voltage connection, whether it is WYE or Delta is the same, the low voltage is not.
